New BBC Series ‘Boarders’ Cast Unveiled: A Gritty Comedy Drama with Heart
BBC Three and iPlayer are gearing up to launch “Boarders”, a fresh six-part comedy drama from Studio Lambert and All3Media International. Created by Timewasters writer Daniel Lawrence Taylor, the show throws the spotlight on five gifted but underprivileged Black students from inner-city London who snag scholarships to the elite St Gilbert’s boarding school.
City Kids Face Off with Boarding School Life
The series follows these bright teens as they swap the rough streets for the plush halls of St Gilbert’s. Expect plenty of culture clash, laughs, and raw moments as they grapple with identity, friendship, and the stark gap between their old lives and the privileged world they’re thrust into.
Fresh Faces and Familiar Names Join the Cast
- Josh Tedeku (Supacell), Jodie Campbell (Bulletproof), and Myles Kamwendo (The School for Good and Evil) lead the lineup.
- Screen newcomers Sekou Diaby and Aruna Jalloh round out the young cast.
- Daniel Lawrence Taylor also stars as Gus, a mentor to the new students.
- Derek Riddell (Happy Valley) takes on headmaster Bernard, while Niky Wardley (Queen of Oz) plays Chair of the Board Carol Watlington-Geese.
- Additional talents include Harry Gilby, Tallulah Greive, Rosie Graham, Georgina Sadler, and debut actress Assa Kanoute.
Creators and Executives Praise Bold New Drama
Daniel Lawrence Taylor shared his excitement: “The cast and crew’s passion is incredible. I can’t wait for viewers to love Boarders as much as we do.”
Susan Hogg from Studio Lambert hailed Taylor’s daring take on tough themes through comedy, calling the series “bold and original” with the perfect mix of humour and heart.
Fiona Campbell, BBC Three Controller for Youth Audience, promised a “refreshingly funny” ride audiences won’t want to miss.
Boarders is co-written by Taylor, Emma Dennis-Edwards, Yemi Oyefuwa, and Ryan Calais Cameron, directed by Ethosheia Hylton and Sarmad Masud, and produced by Ali MacPhail. Filming is underway in South West England, with a BBC Three and iPlayer premiere slated for next year. All3Media International will handle global distribution.
