Grandad, 87, Fatally Stabbed in ‘Vicious Attack’ in West London
Thomas O’Halloran, 87, was brutally killed on August 16 in Greenford, west London, after suffering multiple stab wounds in a savage assault.
Suspect Charged as Trial Set for May
Lee Byer, 44, appeared at the Old Bailey charged with Mr O’Halloran’s murder. A trial is pencilled in for May 2023. During a recent hearing, the court heard Mr O’Halloran told a passerby he had been stabbed—his injuries clearly visible.
A member of the public discovered the victim riding his scooter in a passageway between Runneymede Gardens and Welland Gardens and promptly called the police. Officers arrived within minutes to find Mr O’Halloran collapsed and being helped by locals. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts.
Victim Remembered as Local Favourite and Charity Busker
The grandfather, well-known across the community, suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest, and abdomen, a post-mortem revealed. Byer, who has no fixed address, was also charged with possession of a large knife and remanded in custody following a video court appearance from Belmarsh prison.
Judge Mark Lucraft QC scheduled a plea hearing for November 8, with a three-week trial due to start on May 2, 2023.
Originally from County Clare, Ireland, Mr O’Halloran was a popular musician and charity busker in Greenford. Just months before his death, footage showed him raising funds for Ukraine. His family—including siblings and extended relatives—are left distraught by the tragedy.
Community in Shock as Family Mourns
Fine Gael senator Martin Conway described the victim’s death as leaving his hometown of Ennistymon in “deep shock and sadness.”
“Tommy, as he was known, left Ennistymon for London 71 years ago but returned almost every year until about ten years ago,” the senator said.
The community continues to mourn the loss of a beloved local figure taken far too soon in a shocking attack.
