British Embassy Guard Busted for Spying on Russia’s Behalf
David Ballantyne Smith, 57, a Brit living in Potsdam, Germany, faces nine charges under the Official Secrets Act 1911.
Ex-Embassy Security Guard Arrested
Smith worked as a security guard at the British Embassy in Berlin. He was nabbed by German cops on 10 August 2021 and extradited to the UK on 6 April.
Spy Allegations Stretch Over 10 Months
The alleged offences took place between October 2020 and August 2021. Smith stands accused of collecting and passing on info useful to Russia.
He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 7 April.
