Cambridgeshire’s top crime-busting canine is calling it quits! PD Luna, the four-legged hero who has sniffed out danger for over seven years, is retiring after a stellar police career. From a lucky rescue pup to a vital member of the force, Luna has kept the region safe and sound.
Rescue Pup Turned Crime Fighter
Luna’s journey began at just 14 months old when Dogs Trust saved her from the streets. She quickly made her mark with the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Dog Unit. Specialising in tracking drugs, cash, and firearms, Luna proved herself a true crime-busting superstar.
High-Stakes Missions and Big Wins
- Deployed to major events and sensitive spots, including bustling beaches and conference centres
- Key player in high-profile ops like the 2021 G7 summit security
- Sniffed out illegal guns near the Ukraine-Slovakia border
- Assisted in searches at St Paul’s Cathedral on the 7/7 bombing anniversary
Her handler, PC Paul Huggett, said: “Luna has been a huge source of pride. The scale of operations we’ve worked on together is incredible. Now she’s enjoying retirement with my family, and she’s settled in perfectly.”
Retirement Well Earned – But Care Continues
As Luna steps down, she heads into a comfy retirement backed by the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals. This group will make sure she stays healthy and well after years on the frontline.
From abandoned rescue to trusted crime-fighting companion, Luna’s story shines a light on the bravery and dedication of police dogs. Here’s to a long, happy retirement for a true four-legged legend.
