Israel Strikes Syrian Targets Near Homs
Israel launched a daring air raid on Syrian positions near the government-held city of Homs. Most of the missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defences, state media reported. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the missiles flew over parts of Beirut before hitting their targets. The attacks caused only material damage, with no reported casualties.
Israeli Military Confirms Retaliation
Israel’s military admitted to striking a Syrian air defence battery after it fired an anti-aircraft missile toward Israeli territory. Spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the missile exploded harmlessly mid-air, causing no injuries. Israeli jets also targeted other sites nearby in the strike, he added.
Targeting Iran’s Supply Lines to Hezbollah
Israel has recently stepped up attacks on Syrian airports and air bases. Their mission: disrupt Iran’s aerial supply routes funneling weapons to its allies in Syria and Lebanon, including the militant group Hezbollah. Israeli experts see these raids as a strategic effort to curb Iran’s growing foothold in Syria.
Iran’s Expanding Influence in Syria
Since Syria’s civil war began in 2011, Iran has heavily backed President Bashar al-Assad. This support has allowed Tehran and its militias—including Hezbollah—to extend their influence across eastern, southern, and northwestern Syria, plus key suburbs around Damascus.
