Thieving Scrounger Caught Stealing Charity Boxes in London
Charity Thief Nabbed After Raiding Poppy Appeal Boxes
A man has been deported back to Germany after serving 10 weeks behind bars for nicking eight charity collection boxes across the City of London. Jorge Buyukyoaidis, 54, with no fixed address, targeted offices, shops, and pubs over ten weeks, including six boxes for the Royal British Legion’s Remembrance Day Poppy Appeal.
Caught on CCTV by Sharp-Eyed Officers
Plain-clothes City of London cops spotted Buyukyoaidis during a patrol on Cheapside, recognising him from CCTV footage. They swooped as he tried to cash in just £36 in loose change.
“This was a despicable crime, stealing money donated by the public to charities,” said Sergeant Bruce Howell. “At a time when most of us mark Remembrance Day, this man stole six collection boxes meant to support our veterans. One was even taken on Armistice Day itself.”
Swift Justice Sends a Warning
Buyukyoaidis also attempted to pinch a ninth box, showing he was unrelenting in preying on charities. The sentence and swift arrest send a strong message:
- If you come to London to nick charity money, you will be caught.
- Police remain vigilant to protect public donations.
The thief’s short jail stint was followed by deportation, closing the chapter on his crime spree.
