Germany Joins UK in Sending Heavy Tanks to Ukraine
Germany has finally jumped on the bandwagon, delivering 18 Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine, following the UK’s lead. These tanks, considered top-tier in the West’s arsenal, mark a huge shift in support for Kyiv amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Leopard 2 Tanks and More: Germany’s Major Military Boost
Alongside the Leopard 2s, Germany has also sent 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles and two armoured recovery vehicles. This hefty shipment signals Berlin’s changing stance after initial hesitation, fearing further provocation against Moscow.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius hailed the move on social media, stating the tanks will make “a decisive contribution on the front.”
UK and Germany Tanks: Game-Changers on the Battlefield
Ukrainian crews have been trained on these British and German machines in the UK. The British government is also providing crucial ammo and spare parts, ensuring the tanks stay operational. This Western tank influx could tilt the battlefield balance against Russia significantly.
Russian President Vladimir Putin isn’t taking this lightly. He’s threatened to deploy tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus and pushed for encirclement moves around Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. Yet, the UK Ministry of Defence warns Russia’s 10th tank regiment has suffered heavy losses trying to surround the town.
