Deadly 'Rice-Tusker' Elephant Finally Tranquilised and Moved After Killing Six
In Kerala, forest officials have finally captured and relocated a notorious wild tusker elephant, nicknamed the “rice-tusker” for its love of rice and grains. This rogue bull had already killed at least six people, sparking fear across local villages.
Massive Operation Needed to Catch Elusive Elephant
It wasn’t an easy catch. Previous attempts to capture the elephant had failed. But this time, a massive team of 150 forest officers managed to bring the beast under control after firing five tranquiliser darts. The elephant fiercely resisted, but the officials were relentless.
High-Tech Move to Keep Tabs on the Dangerous Bull
The roughly 30-year-old male was fitted with a GPS collar for continuous monitoring. Before being loaded onto a truck bound for a wildlife reserve, his legs were tied, and his eyes covered with cloth to keep him calm. Four kumki elephants – specially trained captive elephants – helped nudge him into the vehicle.
Human-Animal Clashes Rise as Wildlife Habitats Shrink
Elephant conflicts like this are becoming more frequent across India. With the country’s booming human population pushing deeper into forests, animals’ habitats are vanishing. Sadly, this trend means clashes between humans and wild creatures are set to increase, raising urgent questions about co-existence.
