The FaceApp craze has sparked a storm of privacy fears. But the app’s makers have hit back with a firm statement clearing the air.
Only Your Chosen Photo Gets Uploaded
FaceApp explained: “We only upload the single photo a user selects for editing. We do not transfer any other images from your device.”
They stressed most photo processing happens in the cloud, but only with permission.
Photos Stored Briefly – Then Deleted
The company admitted they might store your uploaded photo temporarily. This helps speed up editing and reduce repeated uploads.
“Most images are deleted from our servers within 48 hours,” FaceApp said.

They also insisted user data isn’t sold or shared with third parties, nor is data transferred to Russia, despite their core R&D team being based there.

The biggest worry? People feared FaceApp was uploading every photo from their gallery. The company firmly denied this.
“We upload only the photo you select for editing. You can verify this with any network sniffing tool,” FaceApp confirmed.
