Russian Blogger Tatarsky Killed in Cafe Blast – Woman Arrested Over Terror Attack
Darya Trepova Held for Moscow Bombing
Darya Trepova was hauled into custody in St Petersburg and dragged to court in Moscow on Tuesday. Prosecutors demanded she remain locked up, accusing her of involvement in a deadly café explosion that killed pro-Kremlin blogger Vladlen Tatarsky.
Blast Killed Tatarsky, Injured 30+
Tatarsky, a high-profile military blogger with over half a million followers, was blowing out candles at a café event when the blast ripped through on Sunday. More than 30 people were injured. Trepova confessed on video to bringing a statuette into the café that later exploded—but insisted she had no idea it was a bomb and denied further involvement.
Russia Blames Ukraine and Navalny’s Group
The Russian Investigative Committee charged Trepova with “terrorist acts causing intentional death” and “illegal possession of explosives by an organised group.” Moscow claims the attack was ordered by Ukrainian security services with help from Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation. Kyiv denies this, with presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak calling the blast an internal Kremlin power struggle.
Controversial Figure with a Dark Past
- Tatarsky was born in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine.
- He served jail time for armed robbery before joining Russian-backed separatists.
- Despite his criminal record, he became a prominent pro-Kremlin military blogger.
- He had criticised Russian military failures and even President Putin.
- Yet Putin awarded Tatarsky the posthumous Order of Courage on Monday.
