Tragedy Hits British-Israeli Sisters in West Bank Shooting
Two British-Israeli sisters, Maia and Rina Dee, have been fatally shot while travelling to Tiberias in the occupied West Bank. Maia, 20, was volunteering in national service at a high school, and her younger sister, 15-year-old Rina, was also killed in the attack.
Community in Shock Over Sisters’ Deaths
The Dee sisters are the 123rd victims in the ongoing conflict. The Board of Deputies of British Jews expressed deep shock and sadness at their deaths, highlighting the devastating impact on families caught in the violence.
Attack Sparks Amid Rising Regional Tensions
The shooting took place after two nights of Israeli police raids on the al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, which inflamed tensions across the region. While militant group Hamas did not claim responsibility, they hailed the attack as a “natural response” to what they called “Israel’s ongoing crimes” and “barbaric aggression” towards Gaza and al-Aqsa mosque.
This brutal incident starkly exposes the fragile security situation and the vulnerability of civilians living amidst the conflict.
Heightened Security Measures Follow Shooting
In response to the attack, Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai urged all Israelis with firearms licences to carry their weapons at all times. This step underscores the fear gripping the region and a growing sense of insecurity following the tragedy.
