Russian Strike Kills 49 in Ukrainian Village Memorial
A brutal Russian attack has killed at least 49 people, including a six-year-old boy, in the tiny village of Hroza, northeastern Ukraine. The strike hit during a memorial service at a local cafe, where villagers had gathered to remember their loved ones.
Deadly Blast in Kharkiv Region
The deadly hit targeted a cafe and nearby shop early afternoon in the Kharkiv region, confirmed Oleh Synehubov, the regional governor. Hroza, home to just 330 residents, was left reeling from one of the worst attacks on civilians in recent weeks.
“From every family, from every household, there were people present at this commemoration. This is a terrible tragedy,” said Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko during an interview with Ukrainian TV.
Seven people were hospitalised, as rescue crews scrambled through smouldering rubble for survivors. Chilling images show bodies strewn amid debris and emergency teams hauling away covered remains.
Investigation Underway as Shock Grips Village
It remains unclear if the Russians hit Hroza with artillery shelling or a missile attack. Russian troops have been present in the area for 19 months since the invasion began. Klymenko described the strike as highly targeted and confirmed Ukrainian security services have launched a probe to uncover what exactly happened.
As the tight-knit community mourns, the devastating impact of the attack highlights the ongoing human cost of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
