Dog Chases Sheep into Crisis on Kent Farm
A shocking attack unfolded at 4.30pm on Thursday 10 March 2022, when a dog was spotted chasing sheep across farmland in Kenardington.
Distressed Ewe Dragged Across Field
Eyewitnesses watched in horror as the dog grabbed a struggling ewe and dragged it across the field before fleeing the scene along with its owner.
The landowner later found the injured sheep suffering severe wounds to a hind leg and body. Sadly, the ewe had to be put down due to its serious injuries.
Owner Arrested and Charged Over Livestock Attack
Kent Police acted swiftly, arresting 28-year-old Charlie Hawker of Appledore Road, ashford/" title="Ashford" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Ashford. He faces a charge of owning a dog that worried livestock.
Hawker has been released on bail and is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 28 April.
Police Warn Dog Owners: Keep Pets Under Control
“Livestock worrying is an unacceptable hindrance to farmers and combatting offending such as this is a leading priority for our team,” said PC Michael Sutton of Kent Police’s Rural Task Force.
“We urge all dog walkers, especially those visiting farms, to take responsible steps to ensure their dogs do not threaten livestock. Ignoring this basic duty is a criminal offence.”
