Amy Legemah, 37, found herself back in court after a tumultuous series of events, culminating in her sentencing to 10 months in prison for battery, criminal damage, and possession of cannabis. This latest incident comes just months after Legemah’s XL Bully, Hugo, was deemed dangerously out of control and ordered to be put down by a judge.
The sequence of events leading to Legemah’s recent conviction unfolded on February 10, when she visited a convenience store in Abbey Wood" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-wpil-monitor-id="5014">Abbey Wood. According to prosecutor Jade Sodipo, Legemah, allegedly under the influence, attempted to purchase sweets but became abusive when her card was declined. She proceeded to throw sweets around the store before being escorted out by a shop worker, who then locked the door behind her.
Undeterred, Legemah continued her tirade outside, eventually hurling a bottle at the shop window, shattering it. Subsequently arrested, she was found to be in possession of cannabis. Legemah pleaded guilty to battery, criminal damage, and possession of cannabis during her recent court appearance at Woolwich Crown Court.
This latest sentencing compounds Legemah’s legal woes, which began earlier when her XL Bully, Hugo, attacked a seven-year-old boy in March 2023 on Attlee Road in Thamesmead. Just 11 days later, both Hugo and Legemah’s other dog, Luna, a Rottweiler, menaced a terrified student. Despite Legemah’s pleas to spare Hugo from euthanasia, Judge Anya Lewis KC ruled that the dog posed a significant risk to the public and ordered its destruction.
The courtroom scene was fraught with emotion as Legemah reacted passionately to the verdict, crying out, “Please no, he’s my son,” before storming out and kicking a rubbish bin down the hallway. This incident, coupled with her recent shopkeeper terrorizing, led Judge Nick Wattam to invoke Legemah’s suspended sentence for arson, resulting in her 10-month prison term.
