A 57-year-old Woman Died In A House Fire, Prompting A Police And Fire Investigation

Shop staff attacked by naming Portsmouth

Police would like to speak to this man about a robbery at Co-op in Twyford Avenue, Stamshaw on Saturday. At about 8.30pm that evening a man entered a staff only area of the shop and pushed a member of staff to the floor, threatening her whilst demanding she open the safe. About £180 was taken from the safe and put in the suspect’s bag. Another member of staff entered the staff area and was grabbed by the man. Both members of staff then ran out of the fire exit. The suspect was seen to leave via the fire exit and rode off on a sliver bike along Penrose Close and turned right into Stamshaw Road. It is believed that some members of the public, who were in the Mother Shipton pub, assisted the victims by chasing the suspect. The man was described as: • 5’ 8” – 5’ 9” tall • Skinny to medium build with a skinny face • Pale complexion • Dark coloured hair • Wearing a blue baseball cap with a small red logo at the back, a long-sleeved, dark-coloured jacket and dark-coloured bottoms • Carrying a CEX bag We are releasing a CCTV image of the man police would like to speak to. While the man has covered part of his face, we believe somebody may be able to identify him. Police would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man from the CCTV image or the description above. They’d also like to hear from any of the people who chased the suspect, or anyone who was in the area and saw a man acting suspiciously and matches the suspect’s description. If you have any information relating to this case, please call 101 quoting reference 441 7028 2323, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
