Black Cab Crashes into Pedestrians Near Covent Garden
Chaos erupted on Southampton Street, WC2, on Wednesday evening as a black London taxi mounted the pavement and struck several pedestrians. The terrifying crash unfolded just after 5pm, leaving one man trapped under the cab and multiple injured.
Horrific Scene Outside Covent Garden
Dramatic images show the taxi straddling the pavement, with stunned onlookers watching the rescue efforts. Shops nearby were evacuated amid the drama. Emergency services rushed to the scene, treating four pedestrians. Three were hospitalised, and one man remains in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
Driver Arrested for Dangerous Driving
The 51-year-old taxi driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He is currently in police custody as detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command probe the incident.

“Police on scene at Covent Garden dealing with serious injury accident involving a taxi. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.”
