Blaze breaks out in Bexleyheath maisonette – 58 firefighters rush to tackle flames
Massive fire guts maisonette above shops
Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters were scrambled to a huge fire at a maisonette above shops on Pickford Lane, Bexleyheath. The fire tore through most of the first and second floors, leaving the home all but destroyed.
Roof damage and quick evacuation
The fire also wrecked the maisonette’s roof and neighbouring properties. Two adults and a child escaped before crews arrived and were treated for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service on scene. Another 16 neighbours evacuated safely before firefighters showed up.
Rapid response brings blaze under control
The Brigade received the call at 11.26pm and had the fire under control by 2.34am. Firefighters from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, Sidcup, East Greenwich, Eltham, and Orpington stations battled the blaze through the night.
Fire cause under investigation
Officials are currently probing what sparked the fire. No further details have been released.
