Summer booze and drug drivers didn’t stand a chance as cops cracked down hard during a month-long blitz. From 14 June to 15 July, timed with the FIFA World Cup frenzy, officers swooped on reckless motorists across the county, slapping arrests on 224 drunks and drug users behind the wheel.

224 Narked Drivers Nabbed in World Cup Crackdown

Out of the 224 arrests, 182 were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, while 42 faced suspicion for drug driving. Police targeted high-risk spots with proactive patrols, charging 102 drivers on the spot. Another 86 were bailed while investigations continue, and 36 were released without charge.

Kent Police Warn: Drink or Drugs Behind the Wheel Equals Trouble

“Officers followed an intelligence-led approach to target those who still attempt to drive after drinking alcohol or taking drugs,” said Sergeant Ben Brennan from Kent Police’s Roads Policing Unit. “This led to a 30% jump in arrests compared to June 2017.

“The only safe option if you’re driving is to stay clear of booze and drugs. Take the risk and you’re playing with fines, bans, or even jail time.

“It’s not a matter of if you’ll get caught, but when. No matter the time of year, the message is crystal clear – don’t drive under the influence.”

Think Before You Drink and Drive

The crackdown is a stark reminder that drinking or drug-driving carries serious consequences. With cops doubling down on patrols, the roads won’t be safe for lawbreakers this summer or ever.
