M2 Closed in Kent After Distressed Person Threatens to Jump
Chaos hit the M2 Motorway in Kent tonight after police sealed off a section following a tense incident involving a distressed individual. Emergency services rushed to the scene after drivers raised the alarm just after 6.30pm on Sunday.
Distressed Person Spotted on Medway Bridge
The individual reportedly climbed onto the bridge with the intention of jumping. Two lanes of the London-bound carriageway between Junction 2 and Junction 3 were shut while specialist officers talked the person down.
At one point, the person was seen perched beyond the safety barrier on the Medway Bridge. Police held back traffic to create a safe zone. An RNLI lifeboat was also put on standby in case of emergency.
Heavy Traffic and Lane Closures Cause Delays
- Traffic built up quickly on approach to the scene.
- Police warned lane closures could last until at least 9pm.
- By 7.25pm, lanes 3 and 4 reopened, but lanes 1 and 2 remain shut.
Drivers are urged to obey lane closure signals and expect ongoing delays on this busy stretch.
