Two Dead After Horror Pile-Up in Romford

Tragedy struck Romford on Thursday afternoon when a black Volkswagen Golf smashed into pedestrians and seven other vehicles. The crash happened around 1.30pm at Squirrels Heath Road/A127, leaving two people dead and several seriously injured.

Fatal Crash Details Emerge

  • A 48-year-old Romford man was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • A 64-year-old woman from Upminster, Essex, also died; formal ID is pending but next of kin have been informed.
  • Six others were hospitalised but have since been discharged.
  • The Golf driver, a man in his late 30s from Brentwood, Essex, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

Detective Constable Phil Stokes of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Two people have died as a result of this collision and their families will be devastated and looking for answers. We need anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information about the events leading up to it, to do the right thing and contact police. Dash cam footage could be vital.”
