Brutal Brentwood Burglar Jailed for 17 Years After Attacking Elderly Victim
A ruthless thug who barged into a Brentwood home, dragged an elderly man from his bed and battered him with a baton has been slammed with a 17-year prison sentence.
Violent Home Invasion Shocks Brentwood
Amos Wilsher, 27, from New Scott Street, Langwith, Mansfield, was locked up yesterday at Basildon Crown Court. He must serve at least 12 years behind bars plus five years on licence. The judge branded Wilsher “dangerous” and also handed down a three-month concurrent sentence for failing to surrender to police. Once released, he faces 203 days on an electronic tag.
Horrific Assault Caught on CCTV
The chilling attack happened around 11:50pm on 12 May 2018. Wilsher and two masked accomplices broke into the victim’s home armed with weapons. They dragged the 75-year-old man from his bed, dragged him along the floor and smashed his head with what police believe was a baton.
The victim’s son was inside the property and forced to comply as they were sprayed with cleaning fluid and threatened with being set on fire if they resisted.
Evidence and Manhunt Lead to Arrest
- CCTV footage shows Wilsher casing the area earlier that day — even ringing a neighbour’s doorbell with his elbow.
- He was caught fleeing the crime scene on camera.
- Forensic teams found Wilsher’s DNA inside the victim’s home on a bottle.
After a nationwide manhunt, Wilsher was finally nabbed in Leicestershire.
Police Comment on Shocking Crime
“Wilsher is a dangerous individual who targeted an elderly man relaxing at home,” said Police Sergeant Frankie Cole.
“He gave bizarre excuses for ringing doorbells with his elbow and couldn’t explain why his DNA was found inside the property.
“The victims went through a horrific ordeal and the elderly man suffered head injuries that required stitching. The attack has had a severe impact on both victims.
“Two suspects remain at large. Even though time has passed, we urge anyone with information to contact Brentwood CID on 101.”
