Two Shopkeepers Jailed for Sex Abuse of Boy at Tower Hamlets Store
Two men have been locked up at Snaresbrook Crown Court after a sickening abuse case involving a young boy at a London shop.
Sexual Abuse Behind Counter
Hannan Ullah, 57, from Barking, and Mohammed Shahabir Alom, 62, of Tower Hamlets, both former shopkeepers, were sentenced on Friday, 28 January, following a four-day trial. Each received two years and four months in prison, with 14 months on licence. They also face indefinite restraining orders forbidding any contact with the victim.
Horrific Crimes in Ferus Superstore
The court heard that Ullah and Alom, who ran Ferus Superstore in Westferry, Tower Hamlets, groomed a young boy who often visited the store. The pair abused the child on four separate occasions between 15 January and 2 February 2018. Some assaults took place in a storage room within the shop, which has since shut down.
Justice Served Thanks to Brave Victim
The final abuse was witnessed by other children in the store, prompting the victim to tell his mother what had happened. Police were alerted, and Ullah was arrested at the shop on 8 March 2018, later released on bail. Alom was interviewed under caution on 20 March 2018. Both were formally charged in May 2019.
Detective Constable Fatima Ahmad said: “These two men preyed on an innocent young boy to fulfil their sexual gratification. I would like to praise the bravery of the victim who came forward and gave evidence which has resulted in putting them behind bars.”
