Man Arrested Over Morning Sexual Assault in Southwater

A 29-year-old local man was arrested on Friday, 30 October, following a shocking sexual assault on a woman runner in Southwater.

Victim Pushed and Assaulted While Jogging

The victim was running along the Down Links near the junction of Marlpost and Two Mile Ash Road at around 7.20am on Tuesday, 27 October, when she was suddenly pushed to the ground and sexually assaulted by a man.

The attacker fled on foot when a passerby walked nearby. The woman was treated at hospital and has since been discharged. She is receiving support from specialist officers.

Police Hunt Man in Red Tartan Jacket

Detectives say the suspect was riding a bicycle and wore brown trousers with a distinctive red tartan padded jacket.

Detective Inspector David Grover from West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit said: “We believe this was an isolated incident. Our intensive investigation continues. Anyone with information, or who recognises the suspect, should contact police online or call 101 quoting Operation Morning.”
