Mayhem at Hackney Unlicensed Rave Sparks Police Offensive
Chaos erupted overnight on Woodberry Down Estate, Hackney, as an unlicensed music event spiralled out of control. Police launched an immediate investigation after scores of residents bombarded authorities with noise and anti-social behaviour complaints from 11pm onwards.
Police Met with Violence Amid Disorder
Officers arrived to disperse the crowd but were met with hostility. As public order worsened, a Dispersal Zone was imposed under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, alongside a section 60 order, unleashing specially trained public order units.
Violence escalated quickly. Bottles, canisters and even a bicycle were hurled at officers. Two policemen were injured — one hospitalised with bruised ribs but now discharged, another limped on after a leg injury.
Two Arrested as Police Clamp Down
Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on charges of violent disorder and obstruction. Police cleared the site by 4am, promising a tough stance on future illegal parties.
DAC Lucy D’Orsi slammed the violence: “The irresponsible organiser’s actions caused injuries to our officers. This behaviour is totally unacceptable. We had already warned against such events.”
“Unlicensed music gigs not only disrupt communities but risk public health and safety. We’re analysing CCTV and bodycam footage to bring offenders to justice.”
“Officers will patrol London with increased numbers and use stop-and-search tactics. Anyone considering these events must think again.”
