Man Arrested in Penge Murder Probe

Detectives have made a breakthrough in the murder of Dean Edwards, found shot dead in Penge on Sunday, 12 July. A 25-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 16 August, on suspicion of murder.

The suspect remains in custody at a London police station as inquiries continue.

Tragic Murder in Betts Park

Dean Edwards, 43, was walking home through Betts Park after meeting friends for a drink. As he neared the Croydon Road exit close to Tremaine Road, he was shot in the back of the head.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran described the arrest as a “major development” in the investigation.

“The people that killed Dean had absolutely no regard whatsoever for his life or for the law,” DCI Kieran said.

“Dean’s death is a tragic reminder that carrying a gun has devastating consequences.”

“We continue to urge anyone with information to come forward by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the murder to contact homicide detectives on 020 8721 4868 or call 101 quoting reference CAD 1402/12JUL.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
