Clocks Go Back This Weekend – But Nightlife Faces Early Shutdown

End of British Summer Time

At 2am on Sunday, 29 October, British Summer Time (BST) ends. The clocks go back one hour to 1am, and the UK switches back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Extra Hour for Night Owls

Normally, this clock change is a win for the nightlife and hospitality industries. If your local bar closes at 2am, the clock going back means you get an extra hour to party – as 2am becomes 1am again.

But This Year, Fun Ends Early

Unfortunately, under the current Tier 1 COVID restrictions, all venues must shut by 10pm on Saturday night. So don’t expect that bonus hour this year – the shutters come down well before the clocks change.
