Tesco boss issues Christmas warning to shoppers:Our stock levels are good, so there’s no need to buy more of your regular groceries – UKNIP

The Chief Executive of Tesco has issued a warning to customers ahead of the festive season, as more areas become subject to lockdown restrictions.

Boss Jason Tarry has warned customers that there is no need to panic buy.

“Our stock levels are good, so there’s no need to buy more of your regular groceries than normal,” he said.

“And as the festive season approaches, it’s always busier for our stores, so please consider shopping a little earlier than you usually would, to avoid the peak festive period.

“We understand that it won’t always be possible, but if you’re able to shop alone then please do. It’ll help make our stores safer and make everyone’s shop a bit quicker.”

In a statement released by the superstore, Mr Tarry also emphasised the existing social-distancing measures in place at the store.

Previously, Tesco had enforced measures such as a one-way system, but this was removed shortly after lockdown.

But the superstore has now introduced new floor markings to guide customers, as well as a traffic-light system to monitor and control the flow of people entering and exiting their buildings at certain branches.

Protective screens have already been installed at checkouts in many stores.

Mr Tarry continued:

“Once in-store, please keep to the social distancing markings. If there’s a queue outside and it’s raining, we’ll be handing out sanitised umbrellas in our larger stores.

“Please follow the legal guidance on wearing a face covering. If you forget to bring one, you can pick up a pack at the front of the store and pay for it with your shopping later.

“In-store, we’re continuing our dedicated hours for vulnerable customers, and we’re giving NHS workers priority access.”

The Chief Executive also urged people to shop in-store and keep delivery slots clear for the vulnerable and shielding.
