Burglar Busted! Bedford Burglar Caught on CCTV and Jailed
Asif Amin, 43, from Prebend Street, Bedford, has been sentenced to three years and four months behind bars. The St Alban’s Crown Court handed down the sentence yesterday after Amin was found guilty of three counts of burglary and possession of Class A heroin.
Burglar Caught Red-Handed on CCTV
Between 9 June and 25 July 2020, Amin made several attempts to break into three properties in Bedford. Bedfordshire Police used CCTV and video doorbell footage to identify him. Amin was spotted wearing the same distinctive clothing each time. One victim even caught him inside their home in the dead of night.
Police Warn Public to Stay Vigilant
Detective Constable Andy Boston of the Operation Maze team said: “We are dedicated to investigating burglaries and putting the perpetrators behind bars. Burglaries cause victims psychological trauma due to the break-in and breach of their home’s safety.”
“I hope Amin spends his time in prison reflecting on his actions. This sentencing should reassure our communities and shows our commitment to keeping residents safe.”
“Residents should also boost home security, especially as the dark nights roll in this winter. Double-lock your windows and doors. When out at night, leave a light on to make your home look lived in.”
Bedfordshire Police are urging locals to stay alert and take simple precautions to avoid falling prey to burglars like Amin.
