Sex Offender Forced to Change Name Again After Judge Slams ‘Predatory’ Past
A convicted rapist has been slapped with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) after a judge branded him a “serious risk to the public”. Richard Sears, formerly known as Nicholas Glen Laloo, was warned he remains a danger due to his years of predatory behaviour.
Judge Refuses To Let Rapist Escape Past
District Judge Polly Gledhill tore into Sears during a hearing to impose the SHPO, ordered at the request of Thames Valley Police. She said, “You have been, and remain, a serious risk to the public… your predatory behaviour is clear.”
Sears, 51, who once lived in Newbury and now resides in Theale, had tried to fight the order, pleading for a fresh start and to move on with his life. But the court heard of his lengthy criminal record including a 12-year jail term in 1996 for raping two women within 24 hours.
Damning Record of Sexual Offences and Harassment
- Over 40 convictions including indecent assault, harassment, and fraud
- 2018: Caught twice with young girls in his car, resulting in a suspended sentence for breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order
- Previously hid his rap sheet to work at Tesco and Yodel
- Past breaches of court orders involving children
Jennifer Wright, representing the police, highlighted “a repeated pattern of sexually motivated behaviour; harassment and stalking,” insisting the SHPO must be indefinite to keep the public safe. The judge, however, set the order for 10 years.
‘Now I’ll Have to Change My Name Again’
After the ruling, Sears complained about alleged attacks against him, including paint stripper doused on his car, windows smashed, and being branded a paedophile by vigilantes. “I’ve done my time,” he said. “I’m just trying to get work and to get on with my life. Now I’m going to have to change my name again.”
But with courts warning he remains a “very serious risk to the public,” it looks like Sears’ troubles are far from over.
