Massive Traffic Crackdown on M25 Nets Over 50 Offenders in Just Six Hours!
Operation Alliance Targets HGVs and Drivers’ Fatal Four
Police from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Kent, Norfolk, and Suffolk joined forces for a blitz at South Mimms service station, just off the M25. Between 8am and 2pm on Tuesday 11 May, officers stopped 75 vehicles and identified more than 50 offences.
The main focus? Commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). Drivers were checked for a range of infringements, including the infamous ‘fatal four’: speeding, using a mobile phone behind the wheel, drink or drug driving, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
Traffic Fines and Prohibitions Fly in Raid
- 7 fines slapped for tachograph breaches
- 33 traffic offence reports issued for seatbelt failures, invalid licences, uninsured driving, tinted windows, untaxed vehicles, and no MOT
- 20 PG9 prohibitions handed out for defective brake lights, worn or underinflated tyres, and faulty airbags
- 1 driver given a verbal warning for incorrect paperwork
Arrests Made During the Crackdown
The swoop also saw three arrests: one individual wanted by police for a separate crime, and two caught driving under the influence. Sergeant Mark Draper of the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said, “It is concerning just how many offences were identified in such a short space of time.”
Police Warn: ‘Check Your Vehicle Before You Drive’
Sergeant Draper added, “Our aim with Operation Alliance and all similar road safety efforts is to keep the roads safe for everyone – motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
Careless driving doesn’t just put you at risk; it endangers everyone else too. It’s not just about speeding or drink-driving – worn tyres, broken lights, and overweight vehicles can all cause accidents.
Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy. Stay safe, Hertfordshire!”
