Brutal Murder of Logan Mwangi Shakes Bridgend
Logan Mwangi’s lifeless body was found in July 2021, floating in the River Ogmore near his home in Sarn, Bridgend county. The five-year-old had been savagely attacked before being dumped in the river.
Three Sentenced for Logan’s Horrific Death
- Craig Mulligan, 14, was handed 15 years behind bars.
- Logan’s mother, Angharad Williamson, must serve at least 28 years.
- His father, John Cole, faces a minimum of 29 years in prison.
All three were convicted of killing the Tondu Primary School pupil after a “brutal and sustained” attack that left the boy with 56 catastrophic injuries, including severe bruising to his head and torn organs.
Why No Appeal for Mulligan’s Sentence?
The Attorney General’s Office reviewed Mulligan’s 15-year sentence but ruled out an appeal. A spokesman said: “The solicitor general was horrified by this case and wishes to express his condolences to the victim’s father.”
He added that the case doesn’t meet the high threshold for a Court of Appeal challenge because Mulligan’s sentence, although tough, wasn’t “unduly lenient” or wildly out of range.
Dark Details Behind Logan’s Final Days
Prior to his tragic death, Logan was treated like a prisoner in his own home. Despite being described at trial as a “smiling, cheerful little boy,” he suffered horrific abuse.
Mulligan openly admitted a “desire for violence,” once telling a support worker, “I love to punch kids in the head, it’s orgasmic.” He also pushed Logan down stairs, breaking his arm.
Mrs Justice Jefford condemned the trio, saying: “You are all responsible for Logan’s death and all the anguish that has flowed from it.” She revealed the full horror may never be known since Logan was killed in his own home.
Mulligan’s Anonymity Lifted After Conviction
During the trial, Mulligan’s identity was protected due to his age. But after his conviction and sentencing, the court lifted the anonymity order. Mrs Justice Jefford explained this was necessary for a full understanding of the case.
Logan was found floating in the river, wearing dinosaur pyjamas and a Spider-Man top—a heartbreaking image of a little boy lost to unimaginable cruelty.
