Fake Cop Pulls Off £1,700 Distraction Burglary in Newham
Detectives have slammed a shameless crook who posed as a police officer to steal £1,700 from an elderly couple in Newham. The conman struck on Wednesday, 10 February at around 2pm, fooling the victims with a fake warrant card and lanyard.
‘Officer Adam Morrison’ Tricks Vulnerable Couple
The man, claiming to be “Officer Adam Morrison”, told the couple he was investigating a 2020 fraud case they had fallen victim to just months earlier. He said counterfeit cash was hidden in their home and needed to be seized. The victim allowed him inside to search – that’s when he spotted the £1,700.
Convinced the couple they couldn’t keep more than £1,000 in cash legally, the crook said the rest had to be taken to the police station. He even called a black car, claiming it was an unmarked police vehicle, to take them in for questioning.
Crook Flees in Volvo with Fake Plates
As the victims prepared to leave, the fraudster vanished with their money. Police believe the getaway car is a black Volvo with fake plates, registered OY55NFF.
