Dover Drivers Hit by New 40mph Limit Amid Lorry Chaos

Dover’s roads are crawling this afternoon as a new Traffic Access Protocol (TAP) slams on the brakes for motorists approaching via the A20. Rolled out just after 3pm Tuesday, the measure aims to ease gridlock caused by heavy freight heading to the port.

What’s the TAP20? 40mph and Traffic Lights

All vehicles coming into Dover from the west must now stick to a 40mph speed limit. And if the jams get worse, temporary traffic lights will spring up to control the flow of lorries into the town. Kent County Council says it’s all about stopping port traffic from clogging the local roads and the critical A20 through Dover.

TAP20 turns on and off depending on traffic levels, so drivers should keep a close eye on the situation. For the latest, follow 123, and @LeShuttle.
