Teen Stabbed to Death in Ashford Gang Feud
Jaydon McFarlane, 19, was fatally stabbed by Osita Alagbaoso in broad daylight near Brockfield Road, Arlington, on Saturday 14 March 2020. The attack happened just before 12.30pm. Alagbaoso was arrested on the same day and found guilty of murder on Wednesday 28 April 2021 after a trial.
Life Sentence for Gang Killer
Alagbaoso, 18, formerly of Hoppers Way, Ashford, had already pleaded guilty to wounding another man with intent in an earlier attack on 25 January 2020. At Maidstone Crown Court on 23 November 2021, he was jailed for life and must serve at least 20 years behind bars.
Deadly Gang Rivalry Sparks Chaos
The murder was the bloody climax of a bitter gang rivalry in Ashford. Police traced the violence back to a feud between Jaydon and Osita’s associate, Joseph Matimba, in January 2020. The pair exchanged hostile messages, which escalated tensions.
- On 25 January, Alagbaoso stabbed another man in Ashford’s Memorial Gardens, causing leg injuries.
- Ten days later, rival gangs clashed in County Square, chasing each other with knives.
- Further taunts and threats were sent between gangs on social media.
Desperate Escape and Police Hunt
After killing Jaydon, Alagbaoso and Matimba swapped clothes in a takeaway toilet to avoid detection, dumped their bloody clothes, and hid the murder weapons. They were then driven away by Hassan Tejan.
Kent Police connected Tejan’s car to the crime and arrested him after an armed stop. Fragments of the murder knife and two other knives were found near Victoria Road bridge.
Alagbaoso’s DNA was found on two knives. Matimba, 19, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was jailed for 18 months. Tejan, 25, was convicted of the same offence and locked up for one year on 23 November.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Moss said: “Alagbaoso is a dangerous man who had no qualms about turning social media threats into fatal violence. The death of Jaydon McFarlane has left a lasting impact on his family and friends. Our investigation ensured justice was served and two accomplices were taken off Ashford’s streets.”
