A Drug Dealer Who Cycled Round Cambridge Carrying A Loaded Gun And A Knife Has Been Jailed

Liam O’Shaughnessy caught the eye of a police officer on 29 December last year (2021) when he was spotted urinating in Gresham Road.

The officer went to speak to him and after smelling, cannabis made the decision to detain him so he could be searched.

While waiting for his police colleagues to arrive, O’Shaughnessy admitted he was carrying ‘weed’ and something ‘really bad’ and attempted to make off.

The lone officer chased after him and held him until the others arrived.

Inside his pockets and rucksack, the officers found a knife, a gun loaded with ammunition, 28 bags of cannabis, 17 bags of cocaine, six bags of ketamine, £930 in cash and a mobile phone.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (18 March), O’Shaughnessy, 24, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six years in prison after previously pleading guilty to possession of a knife in a public place, possession of a loaded firearm and suitable ammunition in a public place, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

Detective Constable Sarah Lloyd, who investigated, said: “This incident shows just how dangerous drugs can be in a community. O’Shaughnessy was carrying a knife and a live and loaded gun while cycling the streets of Cambridge dealing drugs. Use of either of these items could’ve proven fatal.
