Car Attack Horror After Night Out Ends in Violence
Shaquille Mathurin’s night out at Unit 7 turned into a nightmare on Sunday 3 October. After leaving the venue, his group clashed with another, sparking a heated argument that soon turned ugly.
Mathurin fled the scene, but CCTV captured a shocking moment moments later. A blue Peugeot 208 sped into view, ploughing into a group of people. One victim was flipped upside down. The car circled the car park, then charged at the scattered crowd again, hitting a man in his 20s at high speed.
The victim suffered a serious leg injury. Mathurin, 25, from Magnolia Close, East London, jumped out of the car and ran—only to be found hiding in bushes by police minutes later.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Officers arrived swiftly, and Detective Sergeant Gavin Tuck of Basildon CID led the investigation. Mathurin was arrested on suspicion of several offences. He was later charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and possession of cannabis.
At Basildon Crown Court on Monday 28 March, Mathurin pled guilty and was slammed with a five-year prison sentence.
Police Crackdown: ‘No Tolerance for Violence’
“Mathurin clearly targeted his victim and used his car as a weapon after the dispute,” said Detective Sergeant Tuck. “The victim is thankfully recovering, but this could have ended far worse—for him and for Mathurin. “He tried to hide in a bush but was caught quickly. Today, he must face the consequences and spend a substantial time behind bars. “In Essex, serious violence is not tolerated. This sentence should deter others looking to commit crime in our county.”
