Midnight Chase Ends in Crash and Arrest After Woman Forced Into Car
Just before midnight, police were called after a shocking sighting on Anchor Road: a woman appeared to be dragged into a silver Ford against her will. What followed was a high-speed chase through Bristol city centre, down the M32, and onto the A4174 towards Keynsham.
Ford Stopped After High-Speed Pursuit
The silver Ford was finally stopped by officers on Wellsway, Keynsham, around 00:20 BST on Sunday, 1 May. A man in his mid-20s, one of the occupants, fled the scene but was soon caught nearby and arrested. He faces multiple charges including dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
The man was checked over in hospital – thankfully, his injuries aren’t life-threatening. A female passenger was also hospitalised with minor injuries, and safeguarding measures are now in place for her welfare.
Crashes Leave Several Hurt During Police Chase
The drama escalated as the Ford hit two pedestrians on St Augustine’s Parade, both needing medical attention for minor injuries. The police pursuit then caused a further crash on the M32’s northbound carriageway between the police vehicle and a third party car.
Three members of the public were transferred to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the collisions.
Investigation Launched; Witnesses Urged to Speak Up
The incident is now under review by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police involvement before the crashes.
Police are continuing their enquiries. Anyone who witnessed the events and hasn’t yet contacted officers should call 101 quoting reference 5222102562.
