Old Police Station in Newhaven Set for Affordable Housing Makeover
Lewes District Council’s leader, Councillor James MacCleary, has paid a visit to the former Newhaven police station site to check progress on its transformation into affordable homes. The project will deliver 21 new properties, including 15 two-bedroom flats, four one-bed apartments, and two three-bedroom houses.
Designed with accessibility in mind, one ground-floor flat is specially made for wheelchair users, while 11 other homes come with enhanced disability features.
Green Homes with a Sustainable Twist
These homes are 100% electric and built with top-notch insulation for energy efficiency. They’ll also boast a green living roof and a large bike store to encourage eco-friendly travel.
Residents will enjoy a prime spot close to public transport and local shops, plus access to a parking permit system using nearby council car parks.
Council Pushes Ahead with Newhaven Infrastructure Boost
Councillor MacCleary emphasised the need to keep momentum on Newhaven’s regeneration projects. Plans include turning the old Co-op building into a health and wellbeing hub, revamping the old UTC building, and upgrading Dacre Road Car Park. “The council’s plans are finally coming together,” he said.
Housing Chief Cheers Quality Council Homes
Councillor William Meyer, Cabinet Member for Housing, hailed the police station makeover as a major win amid tight council budgets. He remarked, “This development will deliver much-needed homes for local residents.”
