Terrifying South London House Explosion Leaves Family in Tears
A huge blast tore through a terraced house in Thornton Heath, South London, early Monday morning, leaving a mother sobbing in the street for her missing son. The explosion completely destroyed the home on Galpin’s Road and caused severe damage to the nearby houses.
Boy Rescued But Injured
A local 25-year-old resident revealed the boy, whose bedroom was directly across the street, was rescued and taken to hospital. She said: “His mother was crying out on the street, ‘My boy, my boy.’ They took him to the hospital, and we’ve heard that he’s fine since, but injured.”
Other Residents Narrowly Escape
The same witness added that a little girl and her father escaped from the wreckage, and the mother of the house was rescued later. It remains unclear if anyone else is trapped under the rubble.
Firefighters Battle Fierce Blaze
The London Fire Brigade confirmed three people have been rescued. Since shortly after 7 a.m., six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Norbury, Mitcham, West Norwood, and Woodside have been tackling the fire and explosion.
Images from the scene show the terraced house completely collapsed, with debris scattered across the street. Surrounding houses suffered shattered windows, damaged walls, and torn rooftops. The blast ripped open a child’s bedroom wall in a neighbouring home.
A local also reported that utility company Transco was working outside the house just yesterday morning. The cause of the explosion and fire is currently unknown, with investigations ongoing.
