Following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation, a man faces 16 months in prison after being filmed masturbating in front of a woman on the London Underground.
Terence Emberson, 55, of Church Road, Hertford, appeared at uk/courts/westminster-magistrates-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener" title="Westminster Magistrates' Court" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="200591">Westminster Magistrates’ Court on July 18 and pleaded guilty to one count of indecent exposure and breaking a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) imposed for previous exposure incident in 2020.
Emberson was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, August 15. He was also sentenced to ten years on the Sex Offenders Register.
Emberson boarded a Victoria Line train at Tottenham Hale station around 7 p.m. on Wednesday 1 June, and the victim noticed him staring in the direction of two other women on the carriage.
He then turned towards her and showed his genitals while masturbating in front of her.
Officers swiftly matched the victim’s testimony and description of the culprit to Emberson, demonstrating a violation of his SHPO, which barred him from lowering or unzipping his pants in public. He was later detained at his residence.
I’m glad to see Emberson behind bars for his disgusting actions that left the victim shocked,” said BTP Detective Constable Emma Martin.
“Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are issued to safeguard the public, and Emberson’s defiance of this demonstrates his predatory nature.”
“No one should be subjected to this behavior while traveling, and we are completely committed to eliminating it.”
“I urge anyone who witnesses or encounters a sexual offence on the railway to text 61016 or contact 0800 40 50 40.” We will always take your concerns seriously. Always dial 999 in an emergency.”
