A Quick Response From Officers In Thanet Has Seen Two Suspected Cooking Oil Thieves Arrested
A quick response from officers in Thanet has seen two suspected cooking oil
thieves arrested.
Kent Police was contacted at 12.20pm on Thursday 4 November 2022 following
reports of two men acting suspiciously near a takeaway restaurant in Westwood
Road, Broadstairs.
Officers attended and, half an hour later, stopped a van near the village
of Sarre.
Two barrels of cooking oil were seized and two men, aged 40 and 38 and from
the north London area, were arrested on suspicion of theft and taken into
custody.
Advice
Sergeant Paul Robson, of Thanet Community Safety Unit, said: ‘Enquiries are
ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident, but I
would advise businesses who store cooking oil to make sure they have
adequate security arrangements in place.
‘Companies should ensure containers are not on show to potential thieves,
store oil in well-lit areas, ideally covered by CCTV, and keep items such
as wheelie bins stored away, to prevent them being used to access buildings
or scale fences.
‘Businesses should also review their alarm systems and CCTV cameras, as
these will not only deter thieves but also make it easier for us to recover
stolen goods and identify offenders in the event of any theft.’
