Shock Arrest: NHS Worker Caught in Child Sex Sting
Robin Hains, 46, from Lavant near Chichester, has pleaded guilty at Southampton Crown Court after being busted trying to meet a 13-year-old boy for a sexual act. The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) and Hampshire police swooped when he showed up in Southampton expecting a meeting that never was.
From NHS Urology to Courtroom Drama
Hains worked at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in the urology department. On 8 March, he travelled from Bognor Regis to Shirley, Southampton, aiming to meet the minor. Instead, police officers were waiting. He’d even bragged about his sick plans on a messaging app earlier that day.
Aside from arranging the sexual act, Hains faces three counts linked to indecent images of children. Initially denying all charges in June, he flipped his plea to guilty on Monday (14/11), clearing the path for sentencing.
Police Praise Tight Coordination to Protect Children
“Thankfully no children were ever in danger during this investigation. Despite this, Hains clearly intended to meet and abuse a child, something he would have known is illegal, until he was stopped by officers,” said Detective Constable Colin Haynes of SEROCU.
“We work in partnership to safeguard vulnerable children and ensure offenders face justice.”
What’s Next?
Hains remains on bail and is set to be sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on 13 January. Authorities urge anyone concerned about their thoughts or actions towards children to seek help.
