Israeli emergency services have reported that at least one person has been critically wounded in an alleged shooting attack near an illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank. According to the Israeli army, the assailant opened fire at security forces who had stopped to inspect his suspicious vehicle near the Kedumim settlement on Thursday. After the shooting, the attacker fled the scene but was later tracked down and “neutralised” by security forces.
Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan, stated that the assailant had targeted an Israeli security guard near the settlement, although the identity of the attacker has not been immediately determined.
This incident comes in the wake of Israel’s two-day military offensive in Jenin earlier in the week. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that 12 Palestinians, including three children, were killed during the Israeli army’s aerial and ground operation in the densely populated Jenin refugee camp. Additionally, 120 individuals were wounded, with 20 remaining in critical condition, and around 3,000 were displaced from their homes.
Hamas, the Palestinian group governing the besieged Gaza Strip, praised Thursday’s shooting and deemed it a response to the military raid in Jenin.
Earlier this week in Tel Aviv, a Palestinian attacker carried out a car-ramming and stabbing attack, injuring seven people. The assailant was subsequently shot dead by an armed civilian.
