After 18 years since the tragic shooting of PC Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford, a provisional trial date has been established for the man accused of her murder. Piran Ditta Khan, 74, was extradited from Pakistan and charged in connection with the 2005 incident. During a video link appearance at Sheffield Crown Court, Mr. Khan, who has not yet entered a plea, was informed that his trial is scheduled to commence on February 12.
Prior to the trial, Mr. Khan is expected to attend a plea hearing on October 6. In addition to the murder charge, he faces accusations of robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.
PC Sharon Beshenivsky had been serving as a police officer for only nine months when she tragically lost her life. Responding to an alarm at a travel agent in Morley Street, Bradford, on November 18, 2005, she was shot and killed. PC Teresa Milburn, her colleague, also suffered serious injuries but survived the incident.
In 2007, three men were convicted of PC Beshenivsky’s murder, with two others found guilty of manslaughter and a sixth individual convicted of robbery. Despite these previous convictions, the investigation has continued, ultimately leading to the extradition and subsequent charging of Piran Ditta Khan.
