Teen Thugs Attack Couple in Newark Park

Police are hunting a gang of youths over a brutal assault in Newark on the evening of Thursday, 13 July. The victim, 38, was sitting on a bench with his girlfriend near the Swan and Salmon pub in Castle Gate when trouble struck.

Couple Ambushed and Punched Twice

As the couple left the area, they were ambushed near Riverside Park by up to six teenagers. Two of the group struck the man twice in the face. Thankfully, nothing was stolen during the attack.

The victim was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre and diagnosed with a fractured jaw.

CCTV Used to Track Down Masked Attackers

Detective Sergeant Andrea Brown, leading the investigation, said: “The couple came to Newark to enjoy a peaceful day out. This was cruelly cut short by a nasty, unprovoked assault by a group of youngsters.

Police believe the main culprit is about 15 years old, dressed in black joggers and a black jumper. CCTV inquiries and multiple lines of investigation are underway.

Detective Brown added: “We won’t tolerate violence in Newark. We urge anyone who saw the group or the attack, or who may have been approached by these youths, to come forward.”
