Merseyside Police are appealing for information after a non-injury firearm discharge incident in Kirkby on Friday night. The incident occurred on Chesterfield Drive at approximately 8.50pm when a group of three or four males, all wearing black clothing, were reportedly chased on foot by an individual driving a car. The males then ran onto a grassed area and allegedly fired shots towards the vehicle before fleeing on foot. The car involved in the incident left the scene.
There have been no reports of injuries, and officers are conducting house-to-house and CCTV inquiries in the area to identify the offenders. In a potentially linked incident, at around 9.30pm two males reportedly exited a car on Rock Lane in Melling and discharged items in a field. Police are also investigating this incident.
Chief Inspector Daniel Murphy emphasised the recklessness and danger associated with discharging firearms, even when no injuries occur. He assured the local community that the police are dedicated to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. Merseyside Police maintain a zero-tolerance approach to firearms-related crimes and actively pursue individuals involved in such criminality.
Chief Inspector Murphy stated, “We are committed to taking weapons off our streets, and if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences, we will take action.” The police are actively working to make Merseyside a safer place, proactively investigating serious organized crime, including gun use and drug supply.
Mr Murphy called on the public for assistance, urging residents in the Kirkby area to check their CCTV, dashcam, or smart doorbell footage for any evidence that may aid the investigation. Similarly, residents in the Rock Lane area of Melling who witnessed suspicious activity or two males acting unusually in a field around 9:30 pm are encouraged to come forward with information.
