Shots Fired in Kirkby: Police Hunt Gang After Firearm Incident
Merseyside Police are on the case after shots were fired in Kirkby on Friday night—but luckily, no one was hurt. The drama unfolded around 8.50pm on Chesterfield Drive when a group of three or four men, all decked out in black, were chased by a driver in a car. The gang ran onto a nearby grassy area and reportedly fired gunshots at the vehicle before making a swift getaway on foot. The car sped off from the scene.
No Injuries but Police on High Alert
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Officers are now carrying out house-to-house inquiries and scouring CCTV to track down the suspects. Merseyside Police are also investigating a possibly connected incident at 9.30pm on Rock Lane in Melling, where two men reportedly jumped out of a car and fired items in a field.
Police Chief Slams Reckless Gunplay, Calls for Public Help
Chief Inspector Daniel Murphy said: “We are committed to taking weapons off our streets, and if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences, we will take action.” He stressed the danger of discharging firearms, even when no one is hurt, and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
He also urged locals in Kirkby and Melling to check their CCTV, dashcams, or smart doorbells for any suspicious activity. “If you saw anything unusual or have footage, please come forward,” Murphy added.
