A tumble dryer caught fire in a garage on Stream Lane, Hawkhurst, near Cranbrook, on Sunday, 23rd July 2023. Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed two fire engines to the scene to tackle the blaze.
Quick-Thinking Firefighters Stop Fire in Its Tracks
Fire crews arrived swiftly, suited up with full protective gear and breathing apparatus. They doused the flames using a high-pressure hose reel jet, stopping the fire from spreading and causing further damage.
Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.
Firefighters Warn: Don’t Let Lint Build-Up Ignite Your Home
The Kent Fire Service used the incident to highlight the fire risks posed by tumble dryers. They urge homeowners to clean the lint filter before every use, as built-up lint can easily catch fire when heated.
They also warn against running tumble dryers unattended or overnight. “Running appliances only when someone is awake minimizes fire risks and allows for quick reaction if things go wrong,” officials advised.
