Met Police Crack Down on Burglaries in Golders Green and Childs Hill
Police are stepping up patrols in burglary hotspots Golders Green and Childs Hill, targeting criminals and bringing them to justice. The move is part of a tough new drive by Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley to rebuild trust and deliver solid policing basics.
Zero Tolerance on Burglary
The Met is hitting back hard against rising home burglaries. Teams will patrol on foot and in vehicles during peak burglary times. Officers are also working closely with repeat victims, offering crime prevention advice to stop offenders striking twice.
- High-visibility patrols day and night
- Support for vulnerable and repeat victims
- Crime report reviews to identify suspects and crime patterns
Big Boost in Police Response
Police attendance at burglaries has shot up. Between October and November, officers responded to 81.1% of residential burglaries reported via 999 or 101. That’s a huge leap from just 31% for the same period in 2021.
This push to attend every burglary has been backed by tough targeting. In just three weeks from 17 October to 7 November, 177 offenders were caught for nearly 300 burglaries as part of a special operation against organised crime.
Top Brass Speak Out
Assistant Commissioner Rolfe said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home. We are doing everything we can to find burglars, recover stolen goods and bring criminals to justice. I’m proud of the progress we’re making.”
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan added: “Burglaries have fallen by nearly a quarter since 2016, bucking the national trend. But crime levels are still too high. We need to keep pushing the police to put victims first and crack down on thieves. The Commissioner has my full support.”
Stay Safe This Winter
With darker nights and Christmas around the corner, now’s the time to beef up home security. Stay alert and report anything suspicious immediately. Remember, a quick call to the police could stop burglars in their tracks.
