Naturewatch Foundation Launches £5,000 Pet Rescue Grant for 2024
Animal lovers, listen up! Naturewatch Foundation, the UK’s leading animal welfare charity, has unveiled a brand-new Pet Rescue Grant for 2024. The fund will dish out at least £5,000 annually to UK charities and community groups battling the illegal pet trade.
Targeting Illegal Breeding of Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits
The grant focuses on helping dogs, cats, and rabbits caught in the crossfire of illegal breeding and selling. Shockingly, up to half of puppies in the UK come from dodgy sources, fuelling organised crime and causing untold animal suffering.
With over half of UK households owning pets, the scale of the problem is huge. Low-welfare breeders not only ruin countless animals’ lives but also break the hearts of innocent pet owners.
Supporting Rescue Groups Amid Rising Pet Abandonments
Naturewatch Foundation has been campaigning hard to improve pet welfare and expose illegal pet sellers. The new grant comes as animal rescue teams face a tough climate with soaring costs and a spike in abandoned pets since the pandemic.
“As an animal-loving nation, it’s a tragedy so many pets come from the illicit pet trade,” said Natalie Harney from Naturewatch.
“We’ve been fighting illegal breeding for years, but without rescues, many abused pets wouldn’t get vital care. This grant is our way of backing those selfless groups picking up the pieces.”
